SurfMed and Caring Home Care were one of the invited guest in attendance at the ground breaking ceremony for United Home Care’s first Assisted Living facility, The Residence of United Home Care.
When completed in November, there will be over 125 beds, in this mixed income facility catering to Private pay, Medicare and Medicaid patients. The property is being constructed on the grounds of Baptist Hospital West, near Krome Avenue and Kendal Drive in west Miami Dade County.
The ceremony was a joyous event with UHC employees, patients, bankers and many politicians. Surfmed and Caring Home Care work with all the politicians and health care officials and is one of the primary vendors of Untied Home care. Our prices and services were praised by officials who know us and who know that in this new health care world, being the best at these is essential.
We are excited by this new venture of United Home Care and ready to service all the patients.
As Caregivers, we want to assist older adults to live safe, healthy and independent lives. While falls can greatly affect the overall health and independence of older adults, more emotionally debilitating is the limited ability to remain self-sufficient. It is noted by the Center for Disease Control that “One out of three older adults (those aged 65 or older) falls each year but less than half talk to their healthcare providers about it.” One of the greatest lines of support is open communication and sharing valuable tips that prevent the falls from occuring. Here are a few ways you can guide seniors to prevent falls:
With doctor’s permission, recommend that the older adult consider low impact exercises such as water aerobics and gardening, or more social exercises such as golf and walking. Improving balance, flexibility, and strength with these exercises, will decrease the chances of falling.
Shop for Sturdy Shoes
Buy sturdy shoes with non-skid soles that fit properly. Avoid shoes with heels or floppy slippers and make sure to get feet measured each time a new purchase is made.
Keep Your Path Clear
Prevent falls by clearing the living area of tripping hazards such as loose paper, boxes, toys, clothes and shoes. Keep stairs and walkways free of these items.
Keep your Living Area Skid Free
Use mats and rugs that have a skid-proof backing. Place rubber or non-slip matting in showers and tubs.
Often, the home is where we spend the most amount of time. It is no surprise, then, that it is the most common place for accidents. Take a moment to look around your living area, kitchen and yard to see what small changes you can make to ensure the safety of your family and guests.
Be Alert When Out and About
Be aware of your surroundings. When possible go out with friends or family. Don’t carry lots of cash or credit cards. If a situation makes your feel uncomfortable, trust your instincts and leave.

Light Your Way
Don’t attempt to feel your way through the dark. Light your way! Use automated lights that turn on when you enter a room. Also, set lights on timers when you are away so you don’t return to a dark house, and the home appears occupied.
Cook with Care
Avoid wearing loose clothing while cooking–fabric can catch fire quickly. Turn pan handles away from the front of the stove. Keep an extinguisher in the kitchen area and have it inspected regularly.
