It’s important for your loved one to stay active as the autumn season comes around and the weather starts to get just a little bit colder. Check out these 4 ideas for your loved one to stay active this fall.

Pumpkin Patch

Take your loved one to a local pumpkin patch or you can have their caregiver take them. They would be able to get some exercise by walking around the pumpkin patch. They can take pictures with pumpkins to send to family and/or friends. They can also pick out a pumpkin to take home since there are so many things you can do with a pumpkin. For example, you can carve and decorate the pumpkin to look like a jack-o-lantern. Another example would be to take the pumpkin seeds and roast them or bake pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins or a pumpkin pie. Cooking and baking are also good ways to get your loved one body moving and stay active.

Fall Leaves

Invite your loved one over your home if you happen to have a lot of leaves fall whether it be in the front of your house or the backyard. If you have little ones your loved one can see their grandchildren jump in a pile of leaves or you all can pick out the different leaves to see what different colors and shapes you find. Who knows, they might want to feel like a kid again and jump in a pile of leaves and if so, why not join them. If it’s not too much, you can also ask them to help you rake the leaves afterward. It would be a fun time spent together with family.

Petting Zoo

Check out some cute and lovable animals by visiting a petting zoo with your loved one. You all can walk around, feed the animals, and pet them. Walking is a great exercise to get some good cardio in all while looking and learning about different animals.

Corn Maze

Bring your loved one to a corn maze as a family outing and work together to find a way out of the maze. Walking is a great form of exercise and you all will be doing a lot of walking inside a corn maze. You all can also take family photos in front of the corn.

Apple Orchards

Take your loved one to a local apple orchard or you can have their caregiver take them. They would be able to get some exercise by walking around the apple orchard and going apple picking. They can take pictures of the apple trees to send to family and/or friends. Once they pick the apples, they can take the fruit home to bake, make or cook something. There are so many things you can make with apples such as apple cider, apple pie, apple fritters, apple chips, apple pancakes, apple turnovers, fried apples, and more.  Cooking and baking are also good ways to get your loved one body moving and stay active.

Caring Home Care offers homemaker services and companions that can help with and accompany your loved one to recreational activities.  They can also assist with and supervise your loved ones as they cook and prepare baked goods.
